Ukraine to Harvest More Spring Barley in 2011, Researcher Says
Ukraine’s spring barley crop will swell this year as farmers increase planting of the grain and yields climb, UkrAgroConsult said. The spring barley crop, harvested in July, will probably expand to 7.7 million metric tons from 5.65 million tons in 2010, the Kiev-based researcher said late yesterday in an e- mailed statement. Spring barley planting will rise to 3.36 million hectares (8.3 million acres) from 3.03 million hectares a year earlier, according to the statement. Yields will gain to 2.31 tons a hectare from 1.9 tons last year, it shows. The total barley harvest, including areas sown with winter barley, will increase by 25 percent to 11 million tons this year from 8.8 million tons in 2010, UkrAgroConsult said.

Ukraine Seeks 4 Million-Ton Barley Agreement With Saudi Arabia
22.05.12 - Ukraine is seeking to reach agreement with Saudi Arabia on supplying as much as 4 million metric tons of barley to the Middle East country, Agriculture Minister Mykola Prysyazhnyuk said. Saudi officials will arrive in Ukraine next month to discuss an accord, Prysyazhnyuk said in a statement e-mailed yesterday. [more]
