Sales by U.S. craft brewers rose 11% in 2010
Hundreds of craft brewers across the United States collectively posted an 11% sales volume increase in 2010 from the previous year, according to data released by the Brewers Association. The Boulder, Colo.-based trade group defines American craft brewers as small, independent companies that use traditional brewing methods. U.S. sales from all brewers, including industry giants Anheuser-Busch InBev and MillerCoors, dropped 1%. The association says there are 1,759 craft breweries, including brew pubs, in the United States. But most Americans still prefer their Bud Light and Miller Lite, as craft beers accounted for just 4.9% of the overall market, according to the Brewers Association.
