SABMiller aiming for 100% stake in Kompania Piwowarska
SABMiller, the second largest global beer producer, intends to acquire a stake of around 30% in Kompania Piwowarska, the largest brewer in Poland, from Jan Kulczyk, the well-known Polish investor. In turn, Mr Kulczyk will receive 3.8% of SABMiller shares, worth around $1.1bn. As a result of the transaction, SABMiller will become the sole owner of the Kompania Piwowarska group, which owns popular brands such as Tyskie, Zubr and Lech.
SABMiller accounts for 13% of the global beer market and sells brands such as Grolsch, Miller and Pilsner Urquell. During the 2008/2009 fiscal year which ended in March 2009 the company’s sales increased by around 6% to $25.3bn, whereas net profit declined by 7% to around $1.9bn, year on year. Kompania Piwowarska’s share of the Polish beer market increased from 40.3% in 2007 to 43% in 2008. Its sales revenues and net profit increased by 4.7% and 2.4% to PLN 4.7bn (€1.05bn) and PLN 757m (€169m) respectively.

22.05.12 - Ukraine is seeking to reach agreement with Saudi Arabia on supplying as much as 4 million metric tons of barley to the Middle East country, Agriculture Minister Mykola Prysyazhnyuk said. Saudi officials will arrive in Ukraine next month to discuss an accord, Prysyazhnyuk said in a statement e-mailed yesterday. [more]
