Russia, Kazakhstan to import 500,000 tonnes of EU malt barley
Russian buyers will import 450,000 tonnes of malting barley from the European Union and 50,000 tonnes from Kazakhstan. Loadings started in October, carrying Scandinavian malting barley by the end of December around 150,000 tonnes would have been shipped. The imported crop would be used to improve the quality of local malting barley that was hit by this year's drought. The barley would essentially originate from Scandinavia - Denmark and Sweden in particular - with smaller volumes coming from the UK and France.
