Kirin To Boost Beer Output 10% In May To End Shortages
Kirin Brewery Co. said Wednesday that it will raise beer output next month about 10% on the year, running breweries seven days a week in an effort to end shortages of Ichiban Shibori and other key brands. The Kirin Holdings Co. subsidiary idled two breweries after last month's earthquake. The harder hit of the two, in Sendai, remains shut, while the site in Toride, Ibaraki Prefecture, is expected to return to near normal capacity sometime in May. Four of the nine beer brands that Kirin stopped selling last week as the result of production constraints will return to stores in mid-May. Kirin Brewery aims to bring back the remaining five brands "as soon as possible," President Koichi Matsuzawa told a news conference.
