Australia: New malting plant to sate Asian beer mania
Australia's largest maltster, Joe White Maltings, expects to start construction of a new barley malting plant at Minto in southern-western Sydney by the end of June to service the rapidly expanding Asian market for beer. The plant should be completed by February 2011 and will process 110,000 tonnes of malting barley a year to lift Joe White's total capacity thoughout Australia to 610,000 tonnes, with about 500,000t of that exported.

22.05.12 - Ukraine is seeking to reach agreement with Saudi Arabia on supplying as much as 4 million metric tons of barley to the Middle East country, Agriculture Minister Mykola Prysyazhnyuk said. Saudi officials will arrive in Ukraine next month to discuss an accord, Prysyazhnyuk said in a statement e-mailed yesterday. [more]
