Asahi Breweries Plans to Seek Acquisitions
Asahi Breweries Ltd., Japan’s second- largest beermaker, will “aggressively seek acquisitions and alliances” this year to meet a goal to increase the portion of overseas sales by 2015, President Naoki Izumiya said. The maker of the Super Dry brew is expanding outside Japan as the nation’s beer market contracted 2.3 percent in the first 11 months of 2010, according to data from major beverage producers including Asahi. The company’s sales of beer and beer- like drinks in Japan will probably fall 0.7 percent this year amid a drop of as much as 3 percent in the domestic market for the beverage, Asahi said today.
