Drinking less beer and more water is usually a good diet plan -- unless you're the world's largest beer brewer. Instead, Anheuser-Busch InBev is planning to make more beer while reducing water use. Every liter it produced in 2007 required about five times as much water to produce it. Faced with growing water scarcity around the world and increasing pressure to cut consumption, the company plans by 2012 to ratchet down that ratio to 3.5 liters of water per liter of beer, a 30 percent reduction, it announced today. Already, it says, it's about halfway to that goal.

Kirin Buys Stake in Tiger Beer Maker For $974M
27.07.10 - Kirin, Japan largest beermaker, said Monday it agreed to buy a 14.7 percent stake in the maker of Tiger beer from Singapore government investment fund Temasek for almost $1 billion. Kirin Holdings Co. will buy 205.5 million Fraser & Neave shares from a unit of Temasek Holdings Ltd. for Singapore dollars 1.34 billion ($974 million), it said in a statement. [more]
SABMiller launches Miller Genuine Draft in Colombia
26.07.10 - SABMiller announced that it will be launching its international premium brand, Miller Genuine Draft, in Colombia. Miller Genuine Draft (MGD) is already drunk by consumers in 73 markets around the world and the launch in Colombia will ensure that SABMiller further strengthens its global international premium offering, SABMiller said. Colombia was chosen because its consumers are becoming increasingly cosmopolitan and look for unique and relevant brands with which to associate. In addition, Miller Genuine Draft's smooth and refreshing flavour profile will appeal to local tastes and complement SABMiller's existing portfolio in the country which includes Águila, Águila Light, Club Colombia, Poker, Pilsen, Costeña, Redd's and Peroni Nastro Azzurro.
