17.10.10 - 20.10.10: International Brewing Convention 2010

Continuing the unique 2007 supply chain focus on the brewing industry and highlighting the need to be “Ahead of the Curve”, the programme starts from a consumer focus, including:- predicting preferences, the ethical consumer, lifestyle fit and consumer science.
The second day of the programme concentrates on the Materials Revolution, exploring innovations in packaging, raw materials, and waste.

Sunday 17th October

Evening welcome reception in the Town Hall

Monday 18th October

• Opening session with an overview of the UK and International Brewing industries and the challenges/opportunities
o CEO of international brewing company – to be confirmed
o Jonathan Neame – CEO Shepherd Neame
• Consumers and consumer trends
o 5 papers over viewing the way in which consumers will move their purchasing habits, their purchasing decisions and the likely drivers of change including the role of alcohol in society and the ethical ‘eco’ consumer
• The afternoon will be exhibition only followed by a ‘beer and food’ informal event for delegates and exhibitors

Tuesday 19th October

The over view of the day is that the issues relating to resource availability will be examined and the implications to the way in which we do things and the materials we use will be debated

• Water – what is the medium term forecast for water availability and quality and what does best practice look like
• Is the current level of energy usage across the supply chain sustainable and how can this be reduced by radical changes to the process and the use of renewable energy
• What new materials for beer production and packaging are on the horizon
• Changing the paradigm – the brewery of the future will see co products as core products and will seek to maximise value from these through novel use of co products and by seeing all co products and waste as potential income streams leading to the concept of a ‘size zero’ or waste free brewery

Wednesday 20th October

• Developing the themes of the brewery of the future
• Then moving onto explore the supply chain of the future and how radical the industry will need to be regarding inventory, stock and supply chain configurations
• In the afternoon we will look at key people issues including what we need to do to attract and motivate the very best people to work in our sector, and then some hard hitting papers on looking for example of other industries deal with safety and environment – including a paper on safety design in Nuclear Power Stations
• Closing keynotes and summary from leading Industry players
• Closing Gala Dinner
